I've been reading The End League by Rick Remender and it got me to thinking about the apocalyptic. And I was wondering what might be your favorite ways for the world to end in the Bronze Age?

Certainly there was no dearth of endings, from a Badoon invasion to the Sentinels moving out of North America. There was Kamandi, Doomsday+1, Planet of Vampires and, of course, Deathlok's stark world. So while I'm sure this topic may have been covered in the past. Let's talk about the future! Or lack thereof.

Cheers!

The Martian's return! Killraven and the Freemen fight for freedom.

Hi Selenarch! Charlie finds that stories of the apocalypse or some type of existential threat is a perennial favorite! As an early Bronzer that translated to Kamandi comics and Planet of the Apes.

In recent times I enjoyed the "DMZ" series for several TBPs as well as "Y-The Last Man" TBPs.

As far as movies go, I can't take their apocalyptic theme seriously unless they have that swirling funnel of death going from Earth to outer space, lol!

Doh! I forget Killraven though I often found the art very "frustrating " especially the issue which was half Neal Adams and.,,? Hard on my eyes.

I personally always preferred the more optimistic futures like Legion of Superheroes (or Star Trek).

If I have to pick a doom though, let's just have Galactus show up and get it over with. LOL

Charlie, oh how I wished Adam's had stayed on for a nice long run.
I did get used to Russell's art though.

I'm with Charlie; DMZ and Y the Last Man were both great, though I'm not sure they qualify as Bronze Age. I was never big on future tales (except the Legion); since they had so little to do with regular continuity, it was hard for me to care about the stories.

I've heard good things about DeFalco's Spider-Girl, which is set in an alternate future where Pete and MJ's daughter grew up to be a superhero, but I've never read it. Kingdom Come is supposed to be good too, but that's another one I haven't gotten around to. There's also Hex, the apocalyptic future with Jonah Hex, but I prefer Jonah as a cowboy, not a Mad Max knock-off.

Killraven, I can't begin to count how many series I wish Adams had taken over e.g., DD for Colan, Mar-vell for Colan, Shadow for Kaluta...

Mike- you are correct! I think both DMZ and Y the Last Man are products of around 2010ish? Definitely not Bronze, lol!

Hmm I'd go with Simonson's Thor series, suppose Surtur had not been defeated? Now the Nine Realms would really be screwed! Or, let's say Magneto and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (is there any other besides evil ones?) took over the world ...

Very late to this one! For doomsday- how about the Dread Dormammu turning our world into a version of his dimension, and making monsters of us all (Avengers/Defenders clash)? Hey, we'd be monstrosities, but still around...

Oh, and let me echo the praise for Y: The Last Man. Not Bronze, but a fantastic story.

Oh, Charlie- you might consider sending a few of those new Marvel Digests. I've seen a few at supermarkets, they offer a nice range of stories. For instance, the Spidey digest had tales from the 60s, 70s and a few of recent vintage. Plus they are safe material for younger readers...
