The Brave Or The Bold: Weapons of Choice!

Martinex1: What is the best comic book weapon?   Offensive?  Defensive?  Or a combination of both?
How many can you think of?  Web-Shooters, Mjolnir, a Golden Lasso, or Repulsor Rays?
What was your favorite?  Star-Spangled Shields, the Ebony Blade, or a Star Sceptre?
What is the worst?  Billy Clubs, Batarangs, or a green ring?
Of all of the weapons that heroes wield in the four-color world, which captured your imagination the most?  What was the most imaginative?  And what seemed silly?  Compare and contrast battle armaments today at BitBA!  Cheers!

Green Lantern's power ring is the one weapon that I always dreamed of having. I mean, you could do just about anything with it. Even with the limitations involved (24 hour charge and the color yellow(????)), it would still be pretty handy to have.

Yeah, GL's ring is basically magic; it does whatever its wielder needs it to do (or whatever the writer needs it to do for the plot). Spidey's web-shooters seemed pretty versatile; they could make nets, shields, baseball bats ... though I was never quite sure how.

I like weapons that have both offensive and defensive qualties. So Spidey's webs are a good choice along with Cap's shield and Sue's force field. I instinctively take against guns as being uncool so that type of weapon leaves me cold.

Meanwhile I would be kind of worried to possess random hex powers. Using them to fry an egg would be risky enough, let alone running them at a cosmic level.

It's a tough call. As a kid I would have taken any of them. Who wouldn't want Green Lantern's power ring, Iron Man's armor, Thor's hammer, Captain America's shield, Spider-Man's web-shooters, DD's billy club or Batman's utility belt.

Any one of them would have made you the envy of all your friends. And knocking out a bully with a giant green glowing boxing glove would've been so sweet! LOL

Hmmm... good question. I'll try to add to what's already been mentioned.

Cosmically, I'd agree that the Green Lantern ring is hard to beat, but the Silver Surfer matches it with his board. I've always wondered a little that he doesn't use it offensively a bit more. It's pretty much a guided missile after all. I'll throw in Quasar's quantum bands as an honorable mention.

Mystically, Dr. Strange has both the Eye of Agamotto and the Cloak of Levitation, but the Eye wins by a wink even over Dr. Fate's helmet. Honorable mention goes to Shaman's medicine pouch and Katana's soul-sucking sword.

Taking it to the street is anything in Batman's utility belt including the shark repellent, and Captain America's shield, which I liked it much better when it's exact composition was a mystery and not some adamantium/vibranium alloy. The bows of Green Arrow and Hawkeye come in tied as runners up. With those huge chain belts of Thundra and the Bronze Age Power Man coming in third.

As for the worst, the villains have those in spades. Golden Glider's skates, Rocket Racer's skateboard and, well, Kite Man. 'Nuff said.

I'll make my getaway in Stilt-Man's ... stilts to the crack of Catwoman's whip.

Cheers!

Iron Man and his handy dandy repulsor (?) rays that came from his hands. I often found him to be an awesome weapon in and of himself, not just his hands. Ohhh... when he used that circle in his chest... pretty nifty.

And, to be honest, I liked Sgt. Rock's and Fury's guns. We kids spent a ton of time playing army and no time playing super heroes (just once I recall with a cousin).

Probably have to go with Green Lantern's power ring. As a kid, I'd get some cheapo ring out of a gumball machine. Immediately I was Green Lantern, ringed fist thrust forward for action! We used to play superheroes with the kids next door. Had a blast; when I wasn't GL I had to be Spidey, of course.
