All in the Game: Lyric Trivia...
Redartz: Happy Saturday, everyone! A perfect day for some lighthearted trivia, wouldn't you say? And this particular trivia event is inspired by our good friend Prowler. 'Ol Prowl is famous for topping off his comments with a wide variety of song lyrics. So here's our chance to get in on the act. For this go-round, choose a song and post some lyrics. It can be a few lines, or an entire song (looking at you, Prowl). As always, the first correct responder who identifies the song then submits his/her own lyrical poser. Have some fun, and who knows? We may even learn some previously indecipherable lyrics in the process.
To get things started, here's one of my Bronze age favorites. A few lines, in this case:
"...We went to town, with the library, and we swung all over that long tall bank in the Main Street.
Well, there she were, and to my despair, she's a five star criminal breaking the code..."
Okay, there you go. Just be grateful that this is a textual format, and not auditory- you really wouldn't want to hear me try to sing anything. Any guesses?

Is it "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies ?
Here's mine:
I got chills, they're multiplyin'
And I'm losin' control
Oh the power you're supplyin'
It's electrifyin'
I'm usually terrible at recognizing Prowler's lyrics so I made mine reasonably easy to guess :)
I'm gonna say "Magneto and Titanium Man" for the first one and Colin, "You're The One That I Want".
Which, getting back to the first one, begs the question. Paul Freaking McCartney does a song about your characters and you never do a comic that pairs Magneto and the Titanium Man!?! Not even during the "Acts of Vengeance" story line?
Okay, here's mine. Sticking with our October/Halloween theme:
Welcome to my breakdown.
I hope I didn't scare you.
That's just the way we are when we come down.
We sweat and laugh and scream here.
'Cause life is just a dream here.
You know inside you feel right at home, here...
(No lyrics 'cause it's all lyrics).
Prowl- quite right on "Magneto and Titanium Man". As for your offering- I'm still thinking on it...hmmmm.....
Prowl: Alice Cooper "Welcome to My Nightmare".
How about..." I dial it in and tune the station. They talk about the U.S. inflation. I understand just a little...."
"Mexican Radio" by Wall of Voodoo/Stan Ridgeway.
Here ya go, from an '80s favorite:
"Hast du etwas Zeit für mich?
Dann singe ich ein Lied für dich..."
Nena - 99 Luft Balloons. Has to be that.
"How many times have you woken up and prayed for the rain? How many times have you seen the papers apportion the blame? Who gets to say who gets to work and who gets to play?"
Stranglers - "Always the Sun" (that's one I knew right away, but I wanted to give someone else a chance).
Here's another one to chew on:
"Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are,
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are,
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far,
Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are."
Edo you and I are on the same page. I know this one too but I will give it a half hour and see if anybody else can join in here...
Hmmm, I don't have a clue on that one, so I'll throw another into the mix, from one of my favourite late 70s bands.
When I put on my make-up
The pretty little mask not me
That's the way a girl should be
In a consumer society
My existence is elusive
The kind that is supported
By mechanical resources
I am stumped, but here is my contribution:
How you stopped the universe from dying
But you're never going to stop me crying
And I feel like you're trying hard
To sweep me like dirt underneath your cape
Well I might be an ape
But I used to feel super
No idea what Mike Wilson's lyrics point to, but Edo's are from Yes and "Yours is No Disgrace"
Here's another...
"It's dark all day and it glows all night
Factory smoke and acetylene light
I face the day with my head caved in
Looking like something the cat brought in..."
So we've got two in the pipeline ... Mike Wilson's and this one...
Three with Dr O's and I don't know that one either...
Merti's is "Invisible Sun" by the Police off of Ghost in the Machine, which I literally played during dinner two nights ago on the ole turntable. :)
Merti = Marti (but "Merti" is not a bad variation")
Some excellent tunes referenced today! Mike W. and Dr. O have me scratching my head . But anyway, here's another:
"This is the day of the expanding man.
That shape is my shade,
There where I used to stand."
Steely Dan. I can hum it and sing much of it, but don't know the title. "They got a name for the winners in the world. And I want a name when I.. They call Alabama the Crimson Tide... They call me Deacon Blues..." Ha! Deacon Blues!
If anyone is still reading... My wife and I started singing this at dinner in the English and then the German versions... The German version was released on a US album released for the band.
"Komm gib mir deine hand, komm gib mir deine hand."
I'm not sure about Dr. O's song, but mine was from Art-I-Ficial by X-Ray Spex; it's a pretty cool song. I think that whole album was ahead of its time, with songs about conformity and consumerism and such.
Mike W.- thanks for the expose there! I've heard of X-Ray Spex but haven't heard their music. Great lyrics, off tof YouTube I go.
Charlie- got yoursome figured, but I'll wait for someone else. But here's another from the same band:
"Sie Liebt Dich..."
Red - Let me guess...! I know I've heard it before, somewhere! Ya, ya, ya, that's a good one!
