This afternoon my latest ebay splurge arrived; a Time/Life 10-cd collection of 70's Pop Hits. Very reasonably priced; a benefit from the general replacement of cd's by streaming services (some of us still like a physical object to admire- whether it's a comic or a disc). Anyway, I'll be taking it with me to work, where I'll be binging on 70's musical goodness all day! My question: Given a block of several available hours, what genre/ era/ artist would you binge listen to? Make your choice, make a topic, and make it a good week!

Good morning all! Short answers as I travel:
Red- lately I’ve been listening to ‘80s music with a wide range. From the Police to Adam and the Ants; from Blondie to Fleetwood Mac. I’m also listening to old radio programs like Suspense and X Minus One. I have satellite radio for a short time and I’m enjoying it.
Prowl-
1) I say B. That sounds like Superman.
2) I’d pitch new adventures in the Microverse with Reed Richards, Janet Van Dyne, Hank Pym, Marionette and Bug. All out war against an axis of Baron Karza, Kang and the Psycho Man.
3) Be self reflective and know yourself. Recognize weaknesses but embrace strengths.
4) My pillow?!?!

Red - Generally towards the end of the workday when I'm feeling fatigued I go to a block of 70's funk to give me a boost and set my head bobbin'. Cymande's Brothers on the Slide is a current go-to.
1)Yes, I'm with Marti, definitely B.
2) I'd pitch a Doctor Strange and the Wasp book. Wasp struck out with the Scientist Supreme, Hank Pym, so why shouldn't she take up with the Sorcerer Supreme? Both have significant others still in the mix (Hank, Clea) and both in a former life had a sort of upper-class lifestyle, as eminent surgeon and fashionista, so they both have a shared social background. The clash of her outgoing science-y self and his inner facing, sorcery would play off each other nicely, I think.
3) Don't obsess about finding answers, try to ask a better question.
4) Anything halal or kosher. ;)

Geeze Loo-eeze, Prowl-! "And for the NEXT chapter of your thesis-project, boys & girls. . " (heh)
1) Totally B-- tho I'd forgotten that was in the 90's. . .
2) I feel like ALPHA FLIGHT might have exactly that right mix unique personalities along with marginal recognition by the non-comics fanbase-- (like Iron Man was, tbh--- as well as GotG-- AND Dr Strange)-- that it could prove to be a fun team-show. Lots of history for source material, but a TON of room for creative license. OMG-- could. . . could Peter Dinklage be coerced into playing Puck? Geeze, he's totally got the acting chops. . .
3) You don't have to succeed NOW. And don't hold yourself to a narrow, proscribed definition of what "success" is, regardless. Work, live, grow-- and find a way to improve whatever venue you find yourself in.
4) Man-- we. . . don't eat pork anymore in our household. Vegan HBGirl has changed our eating habits massively (although we're not even vegetarian, believe me), and we just couldn't abide the cruelty and inhumanity of industrial pig farming any longer.
Binge-listening? Pfft-- pretty much the default status with me and the Beatles. . . (Channel 18 on your XM dial---); Same with Broadway show tunes. And Marti-- have you found the site that has ALL of the SUSPENSE episodes? Bookmarked on my laptop. YOURS TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR is also in that catalog--- which I've also been plowing my way through. . .

HB, I've got a whole pack of relatives in Portland, but that's nobody you know (or would even want to in several cases...); but I've got some suggestions for what you should see: Powell's Books and, a few blocks closer to the Willamette River, Cameron's Books (smaller and messier than Powell's, but more charming and, usually, cheaper).
On to the questions of the day:
1. You know, I just don't care enough about this era of comics at Marvel to even bother answering
2. Ka-zar and Shanna (and Zabu!) in the Savage Land.
3. Hm. Find time to take long walks in the fresh air. And pretty much what HB said.
4. I don't know. Chocolate maybe. Although I suspect if I tried it, I'd probably end up liking it...
Incidentally, I hope my brevity in answering Prowler's question 3 above does not come across as snarkiness. Indeed, I have to push myself to put down the tablet and go experience reality. And what I'd tell a young person is that though time seems long for you now, it speeds up exponentially. So try to slow things down, feel, sense, touch, experience...

I daresay, with #3 there-- we always run the risk of sounding like Polonius offering young Laertes a bunch o' "sage" nuggets of wisdom (A scene I'm sure we ALL remember from the the Musical episode of Gilligan's Island, yep? Set to "Carmen"? "Neither-a-borrower-noralenderbeee--"). In my own mind I'm thinking, isn't there anyone more qualified than me to be offering words of wisdom to these youngsters? I'm a guy who spends 6 months thinking about the upcoming season's Christmas decorations in his workplace. . . (!)

1) "B" is the plot to the awful Superman Red / Superman Blue storyline.
2) This is an idea I've had for a long time. I would suggest giving up the monthly thin floppy comic format in favor of simply releasing a series of graphic novels for each character(s) every year. For example you could do multiple Spider-Man graphic novels (that are 150 pages or so) by different creative teams. Other teams could be working on their projects at the same time. This would eliminate the tight deadline crunches, and would maintain a good sense of consistency throughout the story, as the same writer and artist would work on the entire thing. This would also solve continuity issues as the books would not have to be tied to any certain era. For instance, the creative team would just be telling a good Spider-Man story, period without being handcuffed by past continuity. It could take place now, or in the Bronze or Silver Age or even the future. Who cares, as long as it's a good story. They could do this with the Avengers, The X-Men, The FF, and etc.
Comics are already written in this format, but are spread out over 6 months to a year. Who wants to read one chapter of a novel a month? So, readers either end up waiting until the entire story if finished before reading it, or they just wait for the TPB (like myself) anyway. So, why not just get rid of the hassle of having to produce a monthly book and just release quarterly graphic novels that aren't tied down to other stories. They could have enough people working on them that they could release several new Marvel Graphic Novels every week.
This week the new Spider-Man graphic novel comes out by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz telling an untold tale from the 1980's, and a new X-Men graphic novel is also coming out by John Byrne, and a new modern Avengers epic, etc. You get the idea. They could sell for like $19.99 each (or something).
3) I'm the last person to give anyone advice on how to succeed in life.

As far as pitching plots, I'm going to go the wacky route and say... STRIKEFORCE MORITURI!!! Think of it, big name stars that might like to do a comic book movie, but just one! New characters introduced every film! The suspense of a favorite character's possible death!
Hey, they made a normy unknown like Guardians of the Galaxy a hit..
As far as grads, I'd say,"Follow your gut before you follow your heart. Trust your gut instincts, because hearts were made to be broken. When you bust a gut, though, you probably have accomplished something substantial".

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in and say "Thanks" for all the responses!!! Lot of great ideas out there.
Let me answer the first question, first:
I find myself drawn to the music of the 80s. I know! Right? Not just the pop and rock stuff but also soundtracks, jazz, dance and what was back then "new age". I really spent way too much money on cassettes back then and was fortunate enough to get much of that on mp3s before they all deteriorated. Plus, when you think about movies like Good Morning Vietnam, The Big Chill, La Bamba and the Buddy Holly Story, you can pull in "old music" and still be in the 80s.
As most of you guessed, Red And Blue Captain America was a DC 90s plot line involving Superman. There's so many more "great" plot lines that I may keep those in my back pocket for another day.
My 15 minute pitch to the MCU would involve Tigra, Moon Knight and Quasar. Both Tigra and Moon Knight would allow Marvel to introduce some of those great Marvel monsters in some form or another. With Quasar, he would be his Earth's version of "Captain Marvel" who comes to our Earth seeking the Avengers help. Taking the Avengers back to his dimension would bring our Earth's Greatest Heroes with their Earth's Greatest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme!!! I can't wait...
The advice that I've learned through many years of experience would be "All Things in Moderation". I know kids wouldn't want to hear that so I would probably go with "If at first you don't succeed, there's an app for that..."
