A few weeks (months?) ago we discussed a Mount Rushmore of bands so now it's time for the much darker sequel...

...MOUNT RUSHMORE STRIKES BACK...

...and this time you must choose the faces of the four greatest MALE solo singers.

I'll choose:

Elvis Presley
Paul McCartney
Neil Diamond
Nat King Cole because, as well as being an amazing singer, my late father would never have forgiven me if I hadn't included 'ol Nat (he'd have wanted Bing Crosby too but there's no more room on that mountain).

Hmmm, solo singers? O.k. here goes:

Marvin Gaye
Johnny Cash
Lou Rawls
Bill Withers

However, if we can also include frontmen for bands, then I'd cut out the latter two and instead choose:
Freddy Mercury
Phil Lynott

Crooners, Aye?

Rudy Vallee - The Whiffenpoof Song (Baa Baa Blacksheep) 1929

Fred Astaire -Night and Day

Bing Crosby - White Christmas

Sinatra - Under My Skin

When I first saw Astaire singing Night and Day to Ginger on the TV, about 5 years ago, I fell in love with her, LOL

The only one that comes to mind for me is Sam Cook; the other three spots are up for grabs.

Thanks for the comments but only four?
I'll have to think of something more interesting next time :D

Colin I think what happens is that many folks in the USA don't get to the blog until dinner time i.e., after work which could be 23:00 - 24:00 your time.

And plus there is a lot going on now in the USA like... like... like... well, there's always something. Preparing for Halloween, perhaps?

Maybe not all the most popular crooners but definitely artists I never turn the radio off for...

David Bowie - definitely uniquely his own style(s)
Art Garfunkel- how can we not get drawn into “Bridge Over Troubled Water”?
Billy Joel - a great storyteller.
Bobby Darin - “Mack the Knife” and “Beyond the Sea” just hit me more than some of his contemporaries’ great hits.

There have been quite a few choices I've agreed with and some very talented and/or distinct voices.

If I was carving out my four, I would go with:

Al Green
Joe Cocker
Elton John
Willie Nelson.

That's my five (four, Sir). That's who I'm going with...

(Sunburst and snowblind
I'd seen the (I shouldn't fear)
Fear running down my brook
While mama was clear (queer),
One more brook
Chills all start screaming
Ribbed and veined
The sunburst and the snowblind
A chill of fear running down my back
When mama was moth, I took bulb form
Body electric
Writhe in vain
Body electric

Body electric
Body electric
Body electric
Body electric
Body electric

Body electric
Body electric
Body electric
Body electric
Body electric).
