Sheeesh, whaaat a question..

I've done gigs, would like to do perhaps a few more with some electric blues stuff. Kinda lost my desire to perform though, but I still like to keep my fingers nimble on the guitar necks. My missus just bought me a new harmonica for Christmas, so between that and the keyboards she bought (two Christmases ago..), I best get going..

I would like to re-visit Europe again, see more aging celebrities (hate when those heroes of my youth pass on unexpectedly..), pay off the remainder of the home mortgage and finish with some remodeling and backyard landscaping.

Perhaps tame intentions by other folks' standards, but I'm pretty low-key.

As a librarian, reader and introvert I would be quite happy with books and comics till the end of my days. So in that spirit I hope to one day read every Marvel and DC comic published between 1970 and 1988 in chronological order.

Aside from that, I would like to visit the USA and see the country that has influenced me so much.

I want to see the spaceships, robots and colonies on Mars that we were promised !!

Colin B., I like the way you think! As I've retired from blog writing, I have been able to devote much more time to reading comics. Really, it's on an almost-nightly basis and I'm loving it. I would like to continue that to the end of my days. I've often fancied which books I'd like to have with me when I go to the nursing home. I think I'll be fine with the digital files from all of the Marvel DVD-ROMs!

But most of my bucket list ideas concern travel. There are places here in the States I need to see, such as the Grand Canyon (maybe Karen will invite me out sometime!). Internationally, I've longed to see the Forbidden City and the Great Wall, as well as the pyramids at Giza. At some point I'd like to return to Poland and tour Auschwitz (and other Holocaust-related sites) again. The Hermitage and the Louvre are on my list, too.

That bungee-jumping pictured? NO WAY.

Doug, funny you mentioned your nightly comic revisiting.. I haven't been focused on Avengers stuff of late, but found myself re-reading the Vision/Grim Reaper stuff from ish 107-108. LOVE the Starlin art in the '70s, and the story is very absorbing. Probably the last of the 'cool Vision' stories, before the Wanda relationship all started.

Cool LCS story from this last weekend: I took the missus down to Elmhurst IL for some family-visiting, and she found this yarn store right next to a, yep, a comic store. So I went in, the lady behind the counter was sweet enough, just had a collector bring in DOZENS of Silver Age Superman/Superboy/Lois Lane/The Atom comics (pretty much 1962-1969 stuff), mostly 'reader copy' quality, but found some impressive Adams and Swan covers in VF+ condition, AND they were all 40% off sticker price. Picked up a beautiful copy of Superman 199 (the 2nd Supes/Flash race) for only $20. No vintage Marvel, just DC. Spent a nice $50 on over a dozen hand-picked issues.

Not to brag, but you just gotta love those bulk deals every so often.

Definitely a 'kid-in-a-candy-store' moment I haven't felt in decades.

This requires a two part answer since I hate typing on my phone! My very immediate goal is to finish reading Adventure 352 where the Legion fights the Fatal Five the first time. I am enjoying it! Question: was Ferro Lad the first "significant " hero to die in the 60s besides Bucky's? Forgive my memory!

Like Colin Bray and Doug, reading is a big part of my list. There's a lifetime of books and comics I haven't read. Travel, too, is a big desire. Colin B., maybe we will cross paths someday- I've always wanted to visit England. Also Egypt, Austria and Japan.

Doing this blog with Marti actually fulfilled one bucket item: writing. Now to focus on my visual art. One list item is to actually sell a piece of my artwork; have done commissions and loads of gifts, but have never actually sold a piece. Yet.

Doug, we both will skip the bungee, but I would try a scuba dive adventure...

Martinex1 said...

Ha ha Colin J - I agree with you. My son was just talking about going to the moon and living there - maybe in his lifetime!

My own is that I'd like to travel to Europe. I've been ... but never to London, Paris, Rome, Athens or any of the destinations my wife had been. I'd like to see those plus Brighton, Liverpool, Madrid, Lisbon, the Amalfi Coast etc.

I'd also like to have something I've written published...perhaps a comic book.

Doug, I've been to the Hermitage and bungee jumping (not at the same time though).

Someday I'd like to have a huge party for friends past and present, people I forgot I even knew,- just a barnstormer! Good music. Good food. Lots of laughter. No worries.

I'd like to take my family to a Disneyland outside the US.

I'd like to eat sushi in Japan.

I'd like to live somewhere warm.

And eat green eggs and ham!

Redartz - drop by for a cup of English tea any time!

We share the writing item too - I have just received my first payment as a freelance writer. It feels good. Life 1 bucket list 0.

Have you ever shown your artwork here or BAB?

ColinBray said...

Ditto Martinex1 - regarding both tea and writing!

Well, I'd like to be a published writer (ideally, I'd like to be a full-time writer, but one step at a time). There's tons of places I'd like to go: France, Japan, Australia, Argentina.

I'd also like to meet my soulmate, so if she's reading this ... call me!

Hiya,

To Colin Bray,

My most sincere congratulation on the first of what will be many, many sales.

My greatest ambition, a web-comic. As anyone who has seen my work will attest, I am not a 'realistic' artist and ,thus, unemployable in the modern comic book industry.

Seeya,

Hiya,

Hey Mike Wilson,

That soulmate that you would like to meet . . . what would you do if she turned out to be Santana?

Some things I've checked off my bucket list in the last couple of decades.

1. Did stand-up comedy for a year or so, mostly performing at the West Palm Beach Improv. I even hosted a show there once. I quit doing it because it didn't really pay anything and it got to be too demanding on my time. But it was fun while it lasted.

2. Learned to play a musical instrument. (A ukulele to be exact). I even play two times a month at a local musical jam fest.

3. Met Stan Lee at a local con in the 90's, and got to speak to him for several minutes. Told him about my complete Spider-Man comic collection, and he seemed pretty impressed. Which made this fanboy pretty happy.

4. Met Jackie Chan (at a book signing). The man has hands like granite.

5. Started my own website where I publish my own comics. (Created with action figures). I've done over 100 of them to date.

6. Took Will Eisner's class "The Cartooning and Sequential Art Workshop" at a local college, and got to know him pretty well. He even gave me an original inked drawing which I still cherish.

7. I took a road trip to New York City and went to NY Comic Con, and visited the World Trade Center memorial, and went to the top of the Empire State Building, and Central Park, and China Town, and one of the big museums, and ate some NY pizza, etc.

8. Went white water rafting on the same river where they filmed the movie Deliverance.

9. Drove cross country with my wife to Las Vegas, and Hollywood, California, among other places.

10. Went hiking in the mountains of Wyoming and I got to see some major snow. Which was a pretty big deal to me because I grew up in Florida and never really got to experience much in the way of snow.

Things on my bucket list that I haven't done yet would be:

1. Take a trip to Europe (England, France, Italy, Spain, etc.),

2. Go to SDCC.

3. Win the damn lottery (so I could actually afford to do those things). LOL

Thank you pfgavigan, may your ambition be realised one day.

@pfgavigan: Uh, did you mean Satana, the devilish Marvel character? If so, I'd consider it ... I've always had a thing for bad girls :)

Colin Bray- congratulations on your freelance milestone! As PFG said, may it be but the first of many.
I haven't posted any artwork, with the exception of a BAB picture of a painting I did in High School. I do have something in mind, though...

PFG- your work is loads of fun, imaginative, unique and clever! I miss those you posted on BAB. Although most modern comics are chained to that super-realistic, slick style, there are many exceptions. Give me a stylish cartoon over a photorealist image any day. And were I a publisher, I'd hire you...

William- it's great that you have accomplished so much so far! Good luck with the rest of your list. Your class with Eisner would have filled the top of my bucket list to overflowing.

I will say this about that:

1) finish scanning my comic collection.

2) decided to punt all those Image comics I bought and not scan them.

3) invent a working time machine, go back in time and prevent me from buying anything Image.

4) use that money to fill in the gaps in my Marvel Triple Action, Marvel Super Action, Marvel Greatest Comics, Marvel Double Feature, Marvel Spectacular.

5) go back farther and stop young me from selling Uncanny X-Men 94 & 95.

Martinex1, according to the collected data and current collected scientific opinion, stay where you are and you will be living somewhere warm....

(Strolling along country roads with my baby
It starts to rain, it begins to pour
Without an umbrella we're soaked to the skin
I feel a shiver run up my spine
I feel the warmth of her hand in mine

Ooh, I hear laughter in the rain
Walking hand in hand with the one I love
Ooh, how I love the rainy days
And the happy way I feel inside

After a while we run under a tree
I turn to her and she kisses me
There with the beat of the rain on the leaves
Softly she breathes and I close my eyes
Sharing our love under stormy skies

Ooh, I hear laughter in the rain
Walking hand in hand with the one I love
Ooh, how I love the rainy days
And the happy way I feel inside

I feel the warmth of her hand in mine

Ooh, I hear laughter in the rain
Walking hand in hand with the one I love
Ooh, how I love the rainy days
And the happy way I feel inside).

I've always wanted to learn to play the guitar or piano. Never have had time or made time to learn. I wanted to play in a blues band or maybe jazz. My kids both play instruments so maybe one day they will help me learn. :)

I also have always wanted to be a writer. At least I can do that through the blog and my record reviews, but I wanted to make a living doing it. That's probably been my lifelong dream. Maybe one day.....

I would also love to spend a week in Memphis during the International Blues Competition, which is taking place this week.

Oh, put me right on the same bus as the other writer-types here. LAST year's resolution was to get serious about the book (series?) idea that has been getting annual pilot-runs/try-outs via a continuing Christmas morning runaround "play" that I've written for the kids for many years now. Every year I love it more, and every year a novelized form becomes more crystallized in my head. HBWife just asked about it, in fact (in reference to "what are you and your friends talking about today?"), and stunned me by saying, yes, I should go ahead and get off of any distracting social media and spend the several possible hours a day necessary to do it. Says she'd be fully supportive of that. (Who'll cook dinner?? And the house is already a mess!!)(Plus I DO have a job!!!) I did get some solid early progress on it a few months ago ('cause PFG got me inspired as well)-- so heck, maybe my bucket's about to kick-?

In the acting area-- I'm actually getting into that older-middle age where a lot of really plum roles come around. And I've had at least a couple in recent years. SWEENEY TODD is very near the top; Tevye from FIDDLER; King Henry from THE LION IN WINTER; Cervantes/Don Quixote in MAN OF LA MANCHA-- but honestly, I tend to enjoy almost any role I pick up, and some of my favorites have been ones that I wasn't at all familiar with before-hand. So the acting bucket list almost becomes to just keep finding and bringing life to characters I haven't inhabited before. . .

PFG, there surelyhas to be a venue out there somewhere that's ready to delight in your comic-art wizardry! Honestly, one of my proudest personal badges of distinction is having been rendered as a supporting lime freeze-pop in
your on-going illustrated "feature" in BABs--! Yer the best, pal-!

Colin Bray, congrats on your first paid writing gig! Wow, William, you seem to have achieved quite a bit already on your bucket list.

My bucket list consists of the usual suspects - I'd like to travel more, I've always had a desire to visit Italy, Japan, USA, Canada, and a few other places; reconnect with some of my family members who live on the other side of the planet; meet some of my comics idols like Stan Lee; write a novel; invent something that benefits all Mankind.

Hi All,

I've had a rich life so far, in part b/c my wife is from France and some fun career choices, so perhaps my "bucket list" is a bit odd / specific...

1) Finally understand why E=MC2. I've read several books and I get stuck around chapter 5 - 6 for each.

2) Finish touring D-Day Beaches. We've seen the American ones, now want to see Juno, Gold, Sword, Pegasus Bridge.

3) Tour the south of France and see more Visigoth ruins (from around 400 AD).

4) Strap on a CH-47 again.

5) Play the Uke like Jake instead of just strumming along.

B.T.w. Where does one find PFG 's cartoons? Anyone have a link? I'm curious.

We were privileged to host PFG's work on several occasions at the now-shuttered Bronze Age Babies. I don't have an easy way to get to all of his work, but the link below will take you to 2-3 posts where he wowed us. Feel free to spelunk around. You'll find the BitBA gang well-represented in the comments sections, and many times as guest writers.

Congrats to all on your accomplishments! Keep them coming and keep us posted along the way. Pretty impressive that we've got writers, artists, bloggers, musicians, historians, actors, explorers, helicopter pilots, etc here. As you comment in the future, update us and we'll cheer you on. If you are published, have a gig, or just did something cool - feel free to comment on Sundays here at BITBA; that is our day for recommendations and general updates. If you email us photos we will get them posted at some point. First one to Mars gets a special post.

And definitely if you want to see pfg's work, follow Doug's instructions above. Colin congrats on your freelance work; that is great news. Good luck to all those that want to write. It seems comic enjoyment made us appreciate the craft. Feel free to contact us at backinthebronzeage@gmail.com if you have any desire to guest post and get some practice.

Some final notes - Colin, I'm up for tea any time; if you make it this way we'll find a vegan Chicago pizza for you. M Wilson - good luck on the soulmate; they tend to find you when you are not looking - like having your eyes closed on a bungee jump with a long chord. Prowler, there are times I don't think global warming, an errant volcano, and a solar flare could make Chicago warm enough for me.

Thanks all for sharing. As my grandpa used to say - fill the bucket before you kick it! Cheers!

pfgavigan, you should definitely pursue your artistic ambitions. I always enjoyed your stuff when it was featured once in a while at Bronze Age Babies.

I am not at all a fan of modern comic art. Which is one of the big reasons I gave up buying new comics. I don't even really consider it comic book art anymore. So, we need people like yourself to keep real comic art alive.
