Follow the Leader, Episode 117: Reading Formats- So Many Choices...

Redartz:  Hello again; back at the keyboard after a week away visiting in Arizona. Had the pleasure of spending time with my youngest son and his family, and the additional pleasure of taking my grandson to his first comic shop (he's only a year old, but he was all smiles).

As if that wasn't great enough, I found an unanticipated treasure there: a 1986 first printing of Will Eisner's semi-autobiographical graphic novel "The Dreamer". On the shelf for little over cover price. And who'd believe it, when I opened it there was a signed bookplate by the comics giant himself!

Will Eisner was an idol of mine, right up there with Stan and Jack. Regretfully I never had the opportunity to meet the man, but stumbling across a signed book is a pretty fine consolation. Have any  of you had the experience of meeting one of your true heroes, or acquired a memento of one? Oh, and a bit more on this subject next week...

Ok, story time's over for now. Time for you to posit a topic for the day; let the discussion begin!

Follow the Leader, Episode 115: Controversial Changes and Jolly Jonah...

Redartz:  Hi folks! Here it is, another Tuesday at BitBa, and you know what that means. Another opportunity for you to set the topic, start the discussion. frame the agenda! First come, first serve; operators are standing by!

Oh, and here's another little tidbit for you to chew on. Last weekend I bought a stack of vintage comics at an estate auction; many of them were late 60's-early 70's Archie books. While going through and researching them, I discovered that several had stories inked by Marvel's own Joltin' Joe Sinnott. It seems he worked on numerous Archie titles between 1969 and 1974. Below are a few pages from "Reggie and Me" 53 (Jan. 1972); with Sinnott inking stellar Archie penciller Al Hartley. Looks like Joe's talent shows on humor as well...

Follow the Leader: Episode 111: Oldest Comic and I Can’t Get Into It!

Redartz:  Hi all, time again to reach out to all you fine folks for a titanic topic for creative conversation! And today we'll do a 'twofer', because I have a quickie question too. I recently saw this question posed on a Facebook group, and thought it was quite interesting and worth repeating here:

What is your oldest comic? And by oldest, I don't mean oldest in terms of publishing date. What book have you actually possessed the longest? Do you have any actual copies remaining from your youthful stacks? My short answer: is two books. First is the Warren Spirit number 1; bought off the rack in the Spring of 1974. And about the same time, my copy of Not Brand Echh 5. The first back issue I ever bought, and one of the very few comics I didn't part with during the big sell-off in the 90's. That comic has resided with me for 45 years now...

Okay, back to you. Give us a subject for the day, we'll follow the leader, and while you're at it let us know about your most vintage book. Salutations!
